Sustainable Secondary Use

Posted in Concepts at 14:55 by Thomas Groß

Service providers do not only use identity information for authentication of users.  They also personalize business transactions or even build an entire business models on the user’s identity.  We call the comprehensive usage of identity attributes and statements by service providers secondary use.

We believe that secondary use will gain importance as Web 2.0 emerges and collaborative applications become predominant.

The extensive use of identity information by service providers bears the risk of a slow privacy erosion and therefore also an erosion of the user’s trust in the service provider.  This can be devastating to the service provider’s business model.

We aim at mitigating this risk with advanced privacy technology that makes the secondary use of identity information sustainable over the entire lifecycle of the identity.
